Level 2 Protection of Vulnerable Adults

This qualification will benefit anyone in the care sector, as it provides candidates with a raised awareness of the abuse of the vulnerable and what to look for, also how to handle situations of concern. The course is aimed at demonstrating to staff their personal responsibility in their conduct towards the safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and how to create a safer environment.

Who Should Attend
This qualification is suitable for all those who work with Vulnerable Adults (staff or Volunteers).

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course delegates should be able to:

  • Recognise truths and myths surrounding abuse
  • Identify ways of dealing with their own feelings about abuse
  • Describe what constitutes abuse & identify the indicators
  • Recognise signs and symptoms
  • Identify appropriate action if a client/patient discloses he/she has been abused
  • Identify appropriate action if concerned about the behaviour of another member of staff or colleague
  • Identify appropriate action if concerned about the behaviour of a family member/carer
  • Identify the types of ‘patterns of abuse’
  • Describe ‘abuse’ as defined by the Dept of Health
  • Identify the main requirements of a Protection of Vulnerable Adults Policy
  • Have a raised awareness about child abuse and how to handle situations of concern.

Delegates will receive training in the following subjects:

  • Statistics of abuse
  • Defining abuse and categories of abuse
  • Patterns and causes of abuse
  • Signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Conduct during disclosures
  • Reporting of abuse
  • Support Network
  • Prevention of abuse
  • Protection of Child Abuse (awareness)

Course Duration
The course is 1 day in duration (6 hours + exam)

Assessment Method & Certification
The assessment will be by the completion of a multiple choice question examination at the end of the course. On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a certificate of competence, which is valid for 3 years.
